Acquire Peace

Given all the new information that is coming in, including a new book on the Columbine Massacre, the cause behind the recent massacre is likely multiple. All we can ultimately do is pray, try to make a difference in the lives of people around us, and be vigilant to the pain and loneliness of our young people. None of us has the answers, I fear, but as Christians we know that we have hope, even within the midst of darkness.

Each day we must commit ourselves anew to showing forth the Light of Christ from our own hearts. We must cultivate love and trust with everyone with whom we come in contact, and we must especially be aware of those who seem to be slipping into the dark places, assuring them of God's love, and of our own. No one should be allowed to go it alone. As Saint Seraphim of Sarov said, "Acquire peace, and a thousand around you will be saved".

With love in Christ,
Abbot Tryphon

It is our joy as a monastic community to have our beloved Metropolitan Hillarion, First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, staying with us for a few days. Having His Eminence serve in our altar, share our table, and visit with us in our library, has been an encouragement for us.

Our first snow of the season

Galatians 5:22-6:2

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

Bear and Share the Burdens

6 Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

Matthew 11:27-30

27 All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him. 28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
